Cantamus – Together Again!

We’ll begin rehearsals of all of Cantamus this week.  Congratulations to everyone who participated in Regional Auditions and Solo and Ensemble Festival!

We now prepare for the Great Hearts Honor Choir Festival.  Plan to come to each rehearsal between now and the festival on Saturday, February 12.  I’ll have your scores for you at rehearsal.

Here’s information about the festival:

Regional Auditions and S&E Information

We will all meet at TPA at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning to ride the bus to the festival and auditions.  The bus will return to TPA at 3:45 p.m.

We would like 2 or 3 parents to come along to chaperone and help the kids get to their various locations to perform or sight read. If you can chaperone, please let Dr. Wolfe know.

The Cantamus ensembles begin performing at 8:00 a.m. so singers should be DRESSED in the Cantamus uniforms and ready to perform before boarding the bus.

Everyone, please bring:

  • Change of clothes
  • Music folder
  • $3 cash for beverage and snack (Dr. Wolfe will provide the pizza for lunch)
  • If you are performing a solo, bring the original, published music (not a photocopy) for the judge, with the measures numbered in pencil
  • Games, cards, Frisbee, homework

Plan to hang out with friends, get homework done, punctuated by the excitement of performance!

Location: Mountain Ridge High School, 22800 N. 67th Ave., Glendale, AZ 85310

Cantamus Trip — Registration — 3rd Post

Registration for the Advanced Vocal Workshop at Disneyland is due February 1, 3:00 p.m. in Dr. Wolfe’s mailbox in the Faculty House.  You must submit a signed hard copy (not email) because we need your signature, your parent’s  signature, your insurance information, and your check.

If you are unable to submit a check on time, you must make arrangements with the front office and inform Dr. Wolfe.

Students who do not submit their registration by February 1 are not guaranteed a position in the workshop or on the bus.

To qualify to go on the trip, students must be members in good standing of Cantamus.

Cantamus Trip – 2nd Post

Last night I presented the proposed trip to the TPA Board — and they approved it unanimously!

It is scheduled for April 29 – May 1.  We leave the TPA parking lot the evening of April 29, sleep on the bus and then have a big breakfast at Dennys in Anaheim.  Then we spend free time in Disneyland and California Adventure, going to our recording session on the grounds around noon.  After our session in the studio with a professional director, we return to the park for more free time and fun, leaving the park around midnight and heading home on the bus, arriving Sunday morning.

To participate in the trip, students must be members in good standing of Cantamus for quarters 3 and 4.  The fee, which will be around $200, will be due on February 1.  A discount will be available to those who helped with the luau fund raiser in October.

Parents: 8 adults already have volunteered to serve as chaperons for the trip.

More information later!

Solo and Ensemble Rehearsals

We are getting ready for the Chamber Recital, Solo and Ensemble Festival, and Regional Auditions!

Sight reading practice (for vocalists) will be at the following times in either the Zelman Center (301) or in Room 302.  Check both places.

Sight Reading Practice (for vocalists) with Mrs. Joslin

Come to as many of these as you can

Tuesday, 1/18, 3:15pm – 3:30pm
Wednesday, 1/19, 3:15pm – 3:30pm
Friday, 1/21, 3:15pm – 3:30pm
Monday, 1/24, 3:15pm – 3:30pm
Tuesday, 1/25, 3:15pm – 3:30pm
Wednesday, 1/26, 3:15pm – 3:30pm

Mrs. Joslin’s availability to rehearse with soloists is below.  If you want her to accompany your solo, get in touch with her and arrange for a time to meet and rehearse.  Allow up to a total of about 20 minutes for rehearsal; you may not need it all.  If you plan for two, short rehearsals, you’ll probably find it more productive.

Solo rehearsals with Mrs. Joslin
Tuesday, 1/18, 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Wednesday, 1/19, 3:30pm – 4:00pm
Thursday, 1/20, instead of after school this day I would prefer to meet with students at 5:30 or 6 before the recital if needed
Friday, 1/21, 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Monday, 1/24, 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Tuesday, 1/25, 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Wednesday, 1/26, 3:30pm – 4:00pm

If none of these times are possible for you, contact Mrs. Joslin by email and arrange other times with her.

Note: if no one has arranged to rehearse with Mrs. Joslin and she doesn’t see anyone around, she’ll leave!

Dr. Wolfe also is available to work with if you arrange it ahead of time.  High school lunch is a good time to get in some rehearsal.

Arranging your accompanist and rehearsal times is your responsibility.

Your Copy of Introducing the Recorder

Some 7th grade students have encountered difficulty obtaining the text Introducing the Recorder and Music Theory.  The publisher informed me that they have another 10 copies left in stock.  While the least expensive way to obtain the book is through Amazon, the copies will have to come from the publisher, which will delay delivery several weeks.  The fastest way to obtain the book is through the publisher, Kendall Hunt.

Form for Performing Solos

If you wish to perform at the chamber recital Thursday, January 20 at TPA, if you wish to audition for regional choir, band, or orchestra January 28-29, or if you wish to perform at the solo and Ensemble Festival January 28-29, or all three, use this form to let us know.  Due January 14.

Note: you must be a “member in good standing” of one of our performing groups in order to audition for regionals or to perform for Solo and Ensemble Festival.  You need not be to perform on the Chamber Recital.
