Cello sonatas, piano duos

Mrs. Catherine Hayden, director of Hayden’s Ferry Chamber Series contacted me with the following information.  All recitals in the Hayden’s Ferry Chamber Series qualify for concert review.  EW

The first concert this season on the Hayden‘s Ferry Chamber Music Series brings cellist Evan Drachman, grandson of Gregor Piatagorsky, to Tempe for the first time. He will perform the Grieg and Chopin cello sonatas with pianists Jerome Lowenthal and Ursula Oppens. Mr Lowenthal and Ms Oppens will play Samuel Barber‘s Souvenirs, a suite for four hands. Mr Lowenthal is a professor at Juillard. Ms Oppens has commissioned and premiered more new works for the piano than any other pianist.

I hope you and your students can come and eat some cake! It will be served at the reception following in memory of William Kapell, Mr. Lowenthal‘s teacher and inspiration for this concert. Mr. Kapell was killed in a plane crash on October 29, 1953. Please call the Box Office on 480-350-2822 for tickets. Adult tickets are $30, but faculty and accompanying adults can get the series price of $24 by quoting “Charter” and students are $10. A glass of wine is included in the Adult ticket price. If you would like to buy the five concert series (the concerts are listed on the website) it costs $120. There is a ticketing fee of $3 per ticket if you buy them on the TCA website (follow the buy ticket link). The ticketing fee is $1 for a phone purchase. You will be surrounded by art and listening to exceptional musicians!
